Nursery - Prep 6: French Breakfast September 2013

We had lovely weather on Friday morning for our French Breakfast. Lots of parents, children and staff enjoyed croissants, pains au chocolat, coffee and hot chocolate and joined Mr Jones in singing Frère Jacques, accompanied by Laurie on the trumpet. Many thanks to Mrs Groom and her team for another early start and all their hard work.

See the rest of the photos here!

Prep 3 - 6: Écris-Moi!

We were lucky enough this week to have a visit from Onatti Productions with their brilliant and very funny bi-lingual play for KS2 children Écris-Moi!

The performers were fantastic and really made the show accessible to all the children from Prep 3 to Prep 6. The children were able to understand exactly what was going on, were taught some new words and even got to join in with the dialogue and also the action, as the whole audience was transformed into the streets of Paris, complete with monuments!

Prep 5: vendredi

Our last full day in France today! We had a fantastic morning in the sunshine at the market in Jullouville, followed by a picnic on the beach in Carolles. We spent almost two hours paddling and playing and we even caught sight of a dolphin swimming off the coast! The weather changed in the afternoon and only 5M were able to do archery due to a very heavy storm and the whole group went inside to play games. The éclairs au chocolat went down very well at dinner and almost all the packing seems to be done ready for an 8.00am departure in the morning. There was some fantastic group work in a final treasure hunt, followed by an impromptu game of grandmother's footsteps. The children are excited about seeing their families tomorrow. À demain!

Joyeux anniversaire à Daisy

Prep 5: mardi et joyeux anniversaire à Daisy!

Another sunny day here! We started with a visit to the Château's mini-ferme and everyone enjoyed cuddling the baby rabbits. We also did some orienteering, which meant racing across the Château grounds stamping numbered sheets by finding the correct posts.

In the afternoon we had a change of plan due to an absent coach driver, so we swapped our Tuesday activities with Wednesday's and ended up making (and eating) our own French bread. This means we will be off to Saint Malo tomorrow afternoon instead.

At dinner we celebrated Daisy's 10th birthday with a fantastic cake made by the Château staff. Bon anniversaire Daisy!

We had a tour of the Château this morning, followed by an afternoon of French and bouncy aéroballe fun. Daniel and Miss Moodie were the 5M champions and Will and Stephen were victorious in 5D. Chicken curry for lunch and vegetarian lasagne for dinner. We spent the evening playing renards, vipères et poules. Everyone is ready for a good night's sleep!

Prep 5: Arrivés au Château!

The children are in bed after a long day on the coach. We arrived at 6.30, had a meal of bread, salads and fruit, unpacked and then had a slightly muddy run around on the château lawn! Lots of bunnies running around on the grass this year!

We've got a tour of the Château grounds in the morning, with French and aéroballe in the afternoon. I hope we get some sleep...

Prep 5: La Fête des Rois

Prep 5 celebrated Epiphany in the traditional French style this week with a Galette des Rois. This is a cake eaten in Northern France at this time of year made of pastry baked with a small ceramic figure inside, known as la fève. The traditional filling is frangipane but this year we had a tasty nut-free version filled with compote de pommes. We sang a song called J'aime la Galette which lists the ingredients of the cake and then watched a video of some French children singing it. In 5D, Joshua was lucky enough to find the fève in his slice and was crowned king, whilst in 5M Tallulah was queen for the day.

Bonne année à tous!
